Diwan-I-Aam or Sabha Niwas Jaipur

 
 As one enters Sarvatobhadra from the Singh Pol, a small Niwas. Built in 1760, it was used for conducting formal functions while today, Diwan-I-Aam has been converted into an art gallery. The hall is decorated with magnificent chandeliers, ornamental painted ceilings studded with semi-precious stones, which still retain their original luster. The ornate pillars typical Jaipuri designs and motifs. The walls are intricately painted with touches of deep red and gold. It also has medieval Afghan and Pakistani carpets. Fine collection of Maharaja’s Persian and Indian miniatures, life-size portraits of the rulers of Jaipur and rare manuscripts are displayed here. Jai Singh’s translations in Arabic and Sanskrit of the astronomical treatise of ancient scientists such as astronomical treatise of ancient scientists such as Euclid and Ptolemy are exhibited in glass cases.
